Truman Cox
Master Distiller
A Smith Bowman Distillery
Truman was raised in Northern Indiana and grew up fascinated by his Grandfather's tales of driving "gin trucks" from local farms into Chicago and Detroit during Prohibition. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from the University of Central Florida. He then moved to Iowa to begin his dream of working in the distilling industry.
Truman learned spirits production as the quality chemist for a large beverage alcohol producer and spent time with the top spirits organoleptic experts. He started at Buffalo Trace Distillery as a Quality Chemist in 2004, and earned his apprenticeship under Master Distillers Elmer T Lee and Harlen Wheatley. He finished up his training with A Smith Bowman Master Distiller, Joe Dangler. From Joe, Truman learned the history and virtues of the A Smith Bowman Distillery and is excited to carry on the traditions of the historic facility.
Now, as Master Distiller at A Smith Bowman Distillery, Truman is putting all of this education to work. Its products honor the pioneering Bowman family and their distilling history. Its spirits honor the giants who have come before, by applying their knowledge to making consistent quality whiskey, vodka, gin and rum. We hope you can visit soon to enjoy the quality craftsmanship Truman and his team has strived to preserve in delivering the A Smith Bowman Collection.
